The festival of lights literally lights up the whole country for the three days it is celebrated. The festival celebrates the triumph of light over darkness and is celebrated by lighting ‘diyas’ in every house that celebrates it. Bursting crackers, wearing new clothes, adorning the streets with beautiful colourful art called rangoli, and gorging on delicious treats is all part of the festivities.
